Automotive Safety is becoming one of the top issues for most communities today. Countries all over Europe are striving hard to significantly reduce the number of deaths due to roads accidents. The target of a 50% reduction in road fatalities set in the 2001-2010 Transport White Paper was not achieved, hence the same target in the 4th Road Safety Action Programme for the years 2011-2020. Another road traffic safety project assumes that by the year 2050 the number of fatalities should be reduced to zero. There are seven strategic objectives of the 4th Road Safety Action Programme, with the most important being No. 4 ‘Safer vehicles’ and No. 5 ‘Promotion of the use of modern technology to improve road safety’.
